Congrats to Krista for winning the Red Gold Gift Pack!
Red Gold Tomatoes is currently having a Summer Grillin’ Party. It started back in late July and the promotion ends on August 30th. Each week 1,000 people will win a Red Gold Apron. There is also a chance to win the Grand Prize…a Big Green Egg Grill! To enter: click on the Summer Grillin’ Party tab that’s posted on their Facebook header.
When Red Gold contacted me and asked me if I’d like to help spread the word about their Summer Grillin’ Party and try some new recipes, I said “Yes!” and the answer was easy because I already use Red Gold Tomatoes a lot in my kitchen. However, this was back when I was on vacation. So when I arrived home, a gift pack was waiting for me. It included 5 different cans of tomatoes:
-
Diced Tomatoes
- Diced Tomatoes with Green Chilies
- Diced Tomatoes Chili Ready
- Diced Tomatoes with Basil, Garlic & Oregano
- Petite Diced Tomatoes with Lime Juice & Cilantro
AND some jalapeno ketchup and a few recipes. PLUS two really nice aprons (modeled by my baby bro).
So we were going to whip up some burgers, but had none of the other ingredients and life just got post-vacation crazy. So fast-forward a week and I convinced my brother to grill some burgers with me last night at my mom’s. We decided to start simple with the Summer Tomato Burger.
Have you ever added a can of tomatoes INSIDE burgers??
I had never added a can of tomatoes to beef for burgers. But that’s all you do! You add one can of Red Gold Diced Tomatoes Chili Ready to 1 lb. of ground beef. Form into patties and season with salt and pepper to taste. Grill. Enjoy the juiciness and flavor. That’s it!
*** Now, if your sister doesn’t read the ENTIRE recipe card correctly if you accidentally forget to DRAIN the tomatoes first, don’t panic. Drain as much juice as you can before completely mashing into the beef. Then add some bread crumbs to help soak those juices further into the beef. Add some more bread crumbs. And then use foil on the grill. Just in case they get a bit crumbly. Not saying this happened to us, but just in case it happens to you… And trust me, they’ll still taste just fine. So I’ve heard. ***
These burgers were YUMMY! My mom has ALWAYS been a Red Gold Ketchup fan, so she used that, of course.
I chose to kick-it-up-a-notch with the Jalapeno Ketchup they provided. And it was PERFECT.
The burgers were a hit and we can’t wait to try the other recipes they sent us. What will be next? The Spicy Burger, Red Gold Burger, Italian Turkey Burger, or Caribbean Chicken Burger? So many to choose from.
Would you like to WIN a Red Gold Gift Pack?

Disclaimer: I did receive a Red Gold gift pack myself (duh, I posted that above). Red Gold asked me to share the information about their Summer Grillin’ Party (I said that above as well). Deciding to try a recipe, which recipe I chose, and my opinion of the burger…those were all my own choices and opinions.
I had NEVER thought to add tomatos to my burgers, but duh, that makes sense about the juiciness (even though I hate that word!).
My favorite way to grill burgers in the summer is pretty simple – just a good ol’ Sam’s burger (I swear they have the best pre-made patties) and some Land O’ Lakes Yellow American cheese! Must toast the bun on the grill, too!
My favorite grilled item in the summer is a Queen City Bratt!
I love burgers on the grill. And corn. I also saw a recipe for grilled doughnuts…sounds like something I need to try. 😉
I love burgers with bacon and cheese crmbles inside:) my favorite thing to grill is pinapple with honey on top.
Rold Gold tomatoes are my favorite!
My favorite burgers are pork teriyaki sliders that we make – melt in your mouth good!
But my favorite grilled item in general is ribs. Marinated in tequila, of course. 😉
Favorite way to grill burgers? To perfection, of course! (and by that I mean mixing grain-fed beef with Worcestershire Sauce and seasoning and grilling to a perfect Medium.) Other favorite item to grill in summer – is everything an okay answer? We grill year-round. Chicken, steak, pork, corn, peppers, potatoes, peaches, zucchini… Our Weber Grill is like a 5th family member!
I love corn on the cob on the grill. Nothing better!
What a great post, Tricia! Lots of wonderful ideas. In the summer I love grilling burgers and steaks, but my absolute favorite item to grill is salmon. YUM!
I’ve never thought about putting tomato in the burger.
My husband does great burgers with bacon and seasoning mixed into the meat. These are our standard summer grilling fare.
I love salmon on the grill but haven’t been brave enough to try it at home. My neighbor also made amazing chicken & veggie skewers. I need to find out what she used for a marinade!

I love vegetables on the grill!
I love grilled corn
I love grilled corn!
I like anything someone else grills. I like a good grilled hot dog that’s just a little burnt.
Love burgers with Lipton onion soup in them! Fav grilled item is chicken! 🙂
Tomatoes inside the burger=Genius!!! With some grilled veggies please!
Pick just one favorite to grill?? So hard to choose between burgers, chicken, zucchini, or corn. I’ll go with burgers since there’s nothing quite like a juicy hamburger right off the grill! Yum! Now I’m hungry…
My favorite was to grill burgers is any way my husband chooses to do it 🙂
