Charlotte got in some trouble when we arrived home after swim lessons. So I ended up taking her upstairs for some alone time. Upon my return to the kitchen Stella was on the Learning Tower waiting for a snack. Here is how our conversation went:
Stella – Where’s Charlotte?
Me, the mommy – Upstairs.
S – Why?
M – Because she wasn’t listening.
S – Why did you say damn it?
M – Oh, did I say that? (Normally I catch myself and didn’t even realize this time that I said it.)
S – Yes.
M – Oh, that was not a good choice. It’s not nice to say. I shouldn’t have said that. Mommy was very frustrated since Charlotte woke up Henry.
S – You should have said OH MAN! (And she cocks her head while saying it.)
M – I guess I should have.
S – Yes, damn it doesn’t sound good.
M – You are right and it really shouldn’t be said by children either. So I don’t want to hear it from you again, ok?
S – But mom, I was just talking to you. (And looks at me like, “DUH, I wouldn’t be saying it if it wasn’t out of context.”
She continues – We’re just having a conversation between me and you.
That little shit.
That Stella is something else! 🙂
