How to Cook Bacon in the Oven

I love bacon. I hate the mess bacon makes while cooking it on top of the stove in a skillet. So I quit making bacon, but I missed it. So much. Then I decided to try baking it in the oven. Game changer! It’s so simple. The clean-up is quick and amazing. The bacon is PERFECT.

I have seen various recipes call for different oven temperatures and lengths of cooking. You do need to try a few settings to see how your own oven cooks the bacon best. And different packages of bacon take different amounts of time before it is perfect (even the same brand). So it’s not something you can set an exact timer for and walk away. You have to keep checking it every 15 minutes or so.

After different trials, I set my oven for 350 degrees. I always use two cookie sheets with edges and line them vertically and horizontally with foil to create a double barrier for the grease. I place the bacon on the trays and into the oven they go! In my oven, it is usually perfect after 30-45 minutes (I do not flip it). And I have to turn on the vent fan and crack a window or I will set off my smoke detector.

Once it’s finished, I pull it out and immediately remove the bacon onto plates layered with paper towels to soak up the extra grease.

Then it’s ready to eat. YUM! I often make a pack or two over the weekend and then store it in a Ziploc bag in the refrigerator for use all week – on sandwiches, in salads, warmed back up to have with scrambled eggs for dinner, etc. Enjoy!
