Thank Goodness for the DVRs

Blog Challenge Day 11: What are your favorite TV shows?

(Yes, I skipped Day 10: What are you afraid of?  I have 3 kids aged 3, 2, & 7 months… momma isn’t afraid of much.)

We DVR everything.  Sadly, we have 4 TVs and 2 DVRs.  But I really do think we do a good job limiting screen time – for ourselves and the kiddos.  Read more HERE in the old “TV or not TV” post.

Advantage: Spend time in front of the TV only watching what we like.

Disadvantage: I have no idea what movies are out, what commercials are cool, etc.

My TV Favorites that I DVR:
  • Fringe – You can see above that I’m EIGHTEEN episodes behind…yep.
  • The Good Wife
  • Damages
  • Oprah – I tape them all, and then delete probably 75% and only watch 25% based upon the topic
  • How I Met Your Mother
  • Rules of Engagement
  • Weeds
  • Entourage
  • The Big C
  • Boardwalk Empire
  • Glee
  • So You Think You Can Dance
  • Nurse Jackie
  • Usually a HBO Miniseries (currently Mildred Pierce, loved John Adams)
  • Undercover Boss – always trying to find a way to use this for a training program at work
  • Justified – Andy’s show that he watches at lunch
  • Mr. Sunshine – supposed to be good, I’ve taped them all, but haven’t watched it yet – so, save it for a rainy day or delete???  Anyone??

Stuff that I have on otherwise:

  • Househunters and Househunters International
  • Almost anything on the Food Network

TV I watched in the past (some of them I can’t believe I’m admitting):

  • Dawson’s Creek – every episodel; I was a Pacey fan – hence, FRINGE!
  • 90210 – the old series; love that my son’s b-day is “9-02-10”!!
  • Walker, Texas Ranger – I’m not sure why either!
  • Dallas – I even visited Southfork; is there really going to be an updated show?
  • The OC (first 2 seasons only) – Led me to watch Southland
  • Many seasons of the Bachelor/Bachelorette, but not all of them
  • Two and a Half Men – I actually watched it up until this season; 2 episodes in and I’d had it with the drinking and sex
  • Young and the Restless, Bold and Beautiful and Days of Our Lives = college
  • Who’s the Boss
  • Family Ties

Kid shows are an entire post for another day…

What do you watch??

  1. I big fat heart Pacey. I finally caught up on Fringe last month–you need to get on that. Have you watched any of Mildred Pierce yet (it’s waiting for me on the DVR)? I heart Kate Winslet too. I tried to watch Who’s the Boss? recently and it doesn’t hold up, but liked it as a kid. DVR was the greatest invention of our lifetime.

  2. I was always a Dawson’s Creek fan, but I remember being on maternity leave with my first (pre-DVR…I shudder at the thought!) and watched the entire series while I was home. It was on twice a day, so I always seemed to be able to catch it. Happy memories of holding my little baby and watching the Pacey/Dawson drama play out.

Another old favorite of mine is Gilmore Girls. I can’t really describe how much I heart this show. I also watched the old 90210and the OC. BB said I used to start smiling as soon as the OC music started. Makes me think I need to get out more:)

Current favorites are Glee, Modern Family, Grey’s Anatomy (I’m pretending the musical episode never happened), the Office, and Bravo reality shows.

I’ll echo your childhood favs and also throw in Growing Pains as a favorite.

Once you have a DVR, there is certainly no going back…

  3. I told the dear hubby that we would go without fresh produce before I’ll cut DVR from the budget. I agree with you LAP…no going back!
P.S. My everyday obsession is General Hospital. Admitting to a problem is first step, I know.
