Cinderella at Ensemble Theater

Cinderella at Ensemble Theater

Still looking for the perfect holiday gift? Give the gift of an experience. Buy tickets to see Cinderella at the Ensemble Theatre downtown in Over the Rhine. You will not regret it. It’s become an annual tradition for us to see a show during Thanksgiving weekend. And it’s always one of our most memorable performances of the year. My favorite thing about the Ensemble in general is the feeling you get that you are right in the middle of the show. It is a steep and smaller theater so all of the seats have an unblocked view. This makes it great for my kids.

Why go see Cinderella if you’ve seen the newest movie, the old cartoon version, etc.? The press release describes it the best: “Throw out that glass slipper and break out your library card! What do you get when you combine a nearsighted bookworm heroine, two fabulously self-absorbed stepsisters, one devilishly diva stepmother, along with a self-empowering Well-Wisher? A fun spin on the classic fairy tale that demonstrates being smart is true beauty!” The Esemble always puts a new spin on an old fairy tale. My girls loved that she wore a sneaker and Stella really liked that Cinderella’s glasses were critical to the story.

The characters stick around after the show for a meet and greet. The girls love this year after year. They enjoyed talking to Cinderella, the Prince, and the Stepsisters. But their favorite each year is the villian. The actress who performs those roles is fantastic. On our way to the show the girls were discussing it in the car…”Oh mom, we really hope that one lady is the Stepmother!” She has definitely type-cast herself, but my girls love her! And she’s the first one they always want a photo with at the end. But this year my favorite would have to be the Stepsisters. They had me laughing out loud throughout the production. Go see it.

Olde West Chester Christmas Walk

Olde West Chester Christmas Walk

The annual Olde West Chester Christmas Walk is always the second Saturday in November. Yes, it is early in the holiday season (always before Thanksgiving), but it is mainly outdoors and the weather is usually perfect for strolling up and down the street while getting into the holiday spirit. It usually starts around 2:00 and

Have You Been BOO-ed?

Have You Been BOO-ed?

We live in a fun neighborhood. It really is crazy how everyone knows everyone (somewhat) and you really can send out a need to our Neighborhood Moms Group and get multiple replies within minutes. Need sugar? Check. Need a playdate? Check. Need size 10 ballet shoes? Check. So the other night we were BOO-ed. And

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! We are all greened-up at our house. AND… A Leprechaun came overnight! A special surprise! A box of Lucky Charms, nine gold coin chocolates and three $1 dollar gold coins. Holiday Happenings – Downtown Dazzle Revisited

Holiday Happenings – Downtown Dazzle Revisited

“Look Dad, they are coming down the building!” Macy’s Downtown Dazzle is a family favorite for us. It gets us downtown. It is free. Santa, Rudolph, and an Elf rappel. There is a fireworks show. And then Mrs. Claus reads a bedtime story. All within 90 minutes. Need I say more? However, this is the

Shillito’s Elves at Newport on the Levee this Season

Shillito’s Elves at Newport on the Levee this Season

Last Saturday morning I got the opportunity to meet up with some other Cincinnati bloggers and check out Santa’s Workshop with the kids at Newport on the Levee.   First stop?  The Shillito’s Elves.  If you are local, you may remember this from years ago.  They had a long history here, but disappeared in the eighties

7th Annual Christmas Cookie Exchange

7th Annual Christmas Cookie Exchange

This afternoon I hosted my 7th Annual Christmas Cookie Exchange.  Last year I posted my Top Ten Tips for having a great cookie exchange.  And they still hold true.  I had about 20 women over and it seemed to be another success. I made my grandmother’s melt-away cookie recipe. Today I served Chicken Noodle Soup

We Sent Hugs in the Mail

We Sent Hugs in the Mail

Over the weekend, the kids made hugs. We traced and cut out each of their hands. They decorated the hands. I measured the ribbon to the length of their arms. Put them together to create a hug. Hugs went into the mail for the grandparents that are far away. A Valentine’s Day surprise. Now they

Holiday Happenings – Festival of Lights

Holiday Happenings – Festival of Lights

Since there are only 3 more days left to visit our Zoo’s Festival of Lights this year, this post is more for me to look back at next year for reminders.  Unless you have nothing to do one of the next three nights and you are local. Then, GO! Things to remember about the
