The Lemonade Stand That Didn’t Make the Bucket List

I have to say that “A LEMONADE STAND!!” was the first idea the kids screamed out for our Summer Bucket List. And I killed that idea immediately. It sounded like a nightmare. More work than I chose to handle. Plus, we live at the very end of a cul-de-sac. So it would also be traveling work. No thanks. But I did promise the kids we would definitely participate if any of our friends ever had one and asked us to join in on the fun.

And that’s how it happened. One evening a neighbor said, “Let’s do it!” And word quickly spread. Soon, the duties were delegated (who am I kidding…I barely did anything other than show up with signs…thanks neighbors!) and the plan was made. Sunday morning we met at a busy street corner in our neighborhood.Neighborhood-lemonade-stand-2Even the moms got in on the action. Especially when the kids began chanting, “FREE! DONATIONS!!” and “It’s for the fosters!” We explained to customers that Warm Welcomes Foster Care Outreach was chosen for the majority of the donations. (Each child who participated also received a dollar for the pool concession stand later that day…they were thrilled!) If you are not familiar with Warm Welcomes, be sure to check it out on their website.Neighborhood-lemonade-stand-donationsAnd that dress? A gem, right?!?!? I’ve been storing that dress in my closet for 15-20 years just waiting for the perfect moment. And I found it. The dress was a hit to say the least. And I’m going to have to find a real perfect occasion to wear it again.

So the Bucket List wins. Even things I didn’t want to add were accomplished this summer. The kids are upset that we still have 2-3 items left to do and school has already started. They do not understand the concept that “SUMMER” is not really officially over…yet.

What fun thing did you accomplish this summer?

  1. Amazing job kids. We, at Warm Welcomes Foster Care Outreach, are so very thankful. And Tricia, the dress is perfect…subLIME even.
