Painting Fairy Houses and Clay Pots

I must admit that I fell in love with the idea of having a Fairy Garden this summer. Have I told you lately how much I LOVE the outdoors and gardening, etc.? So when I saw Valerie’s post on Pinterest about her own backyard Fairy Garden, I pinned it immediately and started planning. There is more to come about the entire Fairy Garden we put together, but first we needed fairy houses and pots for our plants.

I bought three $1 wooden birdhouses (“fairy houses”) and outdoor acrylic paint that was on sale at Michael’s and used a coupon for my entire purchase to save even more. I wanted to be sure that the paint would withstand the elements of being outdoors on our deck all summer.

The kids each worked on their own fairy houses. This was a great indoor activity on a dreary morning. They loved being creative and coming up with their own designs and patterns. I loved that the set-up took minutes and then they were busy for over an hour. Once the “houses” were completed, we moved on to the clay pots for our herbs and flowers. Even I jumped in and painted one of those!

This was a fun activity because the kids became a part of getting everything ready for the Fairy Garden.
